The Full-Body Wax Experience: What It Covers, How Long It Takes, and How to Prepare

A full-body wax is exactly what it sounds like: a single session that covers most or all of the body's major hair-bearing areas. It's one of the most comprehensive grooming services you can book, and for clients who've been piecing together individual appointments over multiple visits, it's often a revelation in terms of both efficiency and results.

Here's everything you need to know before you book one.

What a Full-Body Wax Typically Covers

A full-body wax at WAX LAB can be customized, but a standard comprehensive session typically includes the legs (full or half), arms (full or half), underarms, back, chest or stomach, bikini or Brazilian area, and face (eyebrows, upper lip, chin). Some clients add the glutes or specialty areas as part of the same session.

You decide what's included. Not everyone wants every area waxed, and that's fine. Some clients do everything. Others do everything except the face, or skip intimate areas for a first session. The booking conversation or your consultation at the start of the appointment is when you map that out.

Our full services menu lists individual pricing for each area if you want to calculate before booking.

How Long It Takes

The time depends on how many areas you're waxing, your hair density, and whether this is a first-time session or a repeat appointment. Here's a rough estimate by area:

Full legs: 45 to 60 minutes. Half legs: 25 to 35 minutes. Full arms: 30 to 40 minutes. Back: 30 to 45 minutes. Chest or stomach: 15 to 25 minutes each. Brazilian or bikini: 30 to 45 minutes. Underarms: 10 to 15 minutes. Face (brows, upper lip, chin): 20 to 30 minutes total.

A complete full-body session covering all of the above typically runs two to three hours. If you're doing a partial selection of areas, budget accordingly. First-time appointments in any given area often take a little longer because the hair hasn't synchronized into a consistent growth cycle yet. Returning clients generally move faster because the hair is finer and sparser.

How to Prepare

Preparation for a full-body wax is the same as for individual services, just applied to more of your body at once.

Hair needs to be at least a quarter inch long in every area being waxed. That's roughly two to four weeks of growth after shaving. If different areas have different regrowth timing because you've been waxing some and shaving others, the prep window will vary. Stop shaving everything at the same time so everything is ready at once. Our post on why you should never shave between waxing sessions explains what shaving does to the cycle you're building.

Exfoliate gently one to two days before the appointment. This means a light scrub or soft cloth in the shower, not a harsh chemical exfoliant. Doing this across your whole body before a full-body wax is worth the extra few minutes in the shower.

On the day of the appointment, come in with clean, product-free skin. No lotion, no sunscreen, no body oil. Products on the skin reduce wax adhesion across every area and make the whole session less effective.

Eat something before you come in. A two-to-three-hour session is long enough that showing up hungry can make you feel lightheaded, particularly if you're waxing sensitive areas like the bikini line or underarms. A light meal an hour before your appointment is enough.

What the Session Feels Like

Your esthetician will typically move through the body in a logical sequence to minimize how many times you reposition. A common order is back first while you're face-down, then flip for the front: chest, stomach, arms, legs, bikini or Brazilian, underarms, then face last.

Different areas have very different sensations. The legs and arms are generally the most comfortable. The underarms and bikini area are more sensitive. The face varies by area, with the upper lip typically being the most intense. First-time clients often find the experience more manageable than expected because each individual pull is quick, and the rhythm of the session becomes predictable within the first few minutes.

After Your Full-Body Wax

The aftercare for a full-body wax is the same as for individual services, just applied everywhere.

Avoid heat for 24 to 48 hours. That means no hot showers (warm is fine), no sauna, no jacuzzi. Your entire skin surface has just been exfoliated and the follicles are open across your whole body.

Wear loose, breathable clothing home. Tight fabric creates friction and heat against freshly waxed skin. After a full-body session, this is more consequential than after a single-area appointment. Have loose clothes ready before you go in.

Skip exercise for at least 24 to 48 hours. Sweat on open follicles across a large surface area significantly increases the chance of folliculitis. Rest day after a full-body wax is genuinely the right call.

Moisturize starting at 48 hours post-appointment. After that window, daily moisturizing across all waxed areas keeps the skin supple and reduces ingrown hair formation as the hair grows back. Our post-wax skincare guide covers exactly what to use and when.

How Often to Book

For most clients doing a comprehensive full-body wax, every four to six weeks maintains the results well. Different body areas grow hair at different rates, so there's often some variation in what needs the most attention at each appointment. After a few sessions, you'll have a clear sense of which areas feel ready at four weeks versus which ones can go six.

Our post on how often you should really come in breaks down the right cadence by area, which is useful for deciding whether to book everything at once or stagger some services.
