How Long Does Waxing Actually Take? A Service-by-Service Time Guide

Most people book a waxing appointment without knowing how long it will actually take. That's fine until you've squeezed it between two other commitments and find yourself rushing out mid-aftercare or late for something else.

Here's a realistic time guide for every service at WAX LAB, including what affects the timing and how to plan your day around your appointment.

Why Timing Varies

The estimates below are realistic averages, but your actual time will depend on a few variables.

First-time appointments in any area take longer. Hair that hasn't been waxed before tends to be thicker, often grows in multiple directions, and requires more careful application and removal. Expect your first session in any new area to run about 15 to 20 percent longer than subsequent ones.

Hair density varies between people. Someone with very dense, coarse body hair needs more wax applied in more passes than someone with fine, sparse growth. After several consistent waxing sessions, regrowth becomes finer and sparser, which shortens appointment times significantly.

Session length also reflects how long since your last appointment. If you've stretched further than usual between visits, there's more to remove and the session takes longer. Our post on handling overgrowth covers what to do when the gap has been long.

Face and Brows

Eyebrows: 10 to 15 minutes. One of the quickest services available. Shaping takes precision but not a lot of time once the esthetician has assessed the natural brow and determined the lines.

Upper lip: 5 to 10 minutes. A very brief service. Many clients add it to the end of any appointment rather than booking it standalone.

Chin: 5 to 10 minutes. Similar to the upper lip in terms of time.

Full face: 25 to 35 minutes. Covers brows, upper lip, chin, cheeks, sideburns, and forehead. The individual areas add up quickly, but a skilled esthetician moves through them efficiently.

Eyebrow lamination with tint: 60 minutes. The lamination process requires processing time that can't be rushed.

Underarms

Underarms: 10 to 15 minutes. A small area but moderately sensitive, so the esthetician moves carefully. For first-time underarm clients, allow closer to 15 minutes.

Bikini and Brazilian

Bikini: 20 to 30 minutes. Addresses the sides and top of the bikini line without going further.

Brazilian: 30 to 45 minutes. The comprehensive front-to-back removal takes more time, particularly for first sessions. Returning clients who maintain a consistent schedule often come in at 25 to 35 minutes as the hair becomes finer and sparser.

Manzilian: 45 to 60 minutes. The larger surface area and coarser hair typical in this service requires more time. Our services page covers the full pricing and options.

T-Zilian: 30 to 45 minutes depending on the specific service (M2F or F2M) and whether it's the extended version. More detail is in our dedicated T-Zilian post.

Back and Chest

Back (full): 30 to 45 minutes. A larger surface area with typically coarser hair. First sessions tend toward 45 minutes. Returning clients often come in at 30 to 35.

Back (partial): 15 to 25 minutes. Upper or lower half only.

Chest: 25 to 35 minutes. Similar to the back in terms of approach, slightly less surface area for most clients.

Pectorals only: 15 to 20 minutes.

Stomach (full): 15 to 20 minutes. A quicker service than most people expect.

Stomach (partial): 10 to 15 minutes.

Arms and Legs

Full arms: 30 to 40 minutes. Arms are generally comfortable to wax and the hair tends to be finer than body hair, so the session moves well.

Half arms: 15 to 20 minutes.

Full legs: 45 to 60 minutes. The largest surface area of any standard service. First sessions often run closer to 60 minutes. Long-term clients with fine, sparse regrowth often finish in 40 to 45.

Half legs: 25 to 35 minutes.

Specialty Services

Booty facial: 30 minutes. The steam, extractions, and mask process is structured and consistent.

Junk or Jewel facial: 30 minutes.

Back facial: 45 minutes.

Microdermabrasion (face and neck): 45 minutes.

Microdermabrasion (back, full): 60 minutes.

Combining Services

Most clients who combine multiple services in one appointment don't just add the individual times together. An efficient esthetician sequences the appointment to minimize repositioning and downtime, so a combined session often runs a bit shorter than the sum of individual service times.

A Brazilian plus underarms together, for example, might take 45 to 55 minutes rather than the 55 to 60 minutes you'd get by adding the individual estimates. A full leg plus Brazilian might run 75 to 85 minutes rather than 90 to 105.

If you're building a longer combined session, add a small buffer. Arriving with extra time rather than booking tightly against something else makes the appointment significantly more relaxed.

How to Plan Your Day

Book your appointment on a day when you're not rushing. Post-wax skin benefits from a calm, unhurried hour afterward. Tight clothing straight from the salon, a stressful commute immediately after a Brazilian, or rushing to the gym within hours of your appointment all make the post-wax window harder on your skin.

If you're waxing before an event, allow a full 48 hours between your appointment and anything where you need to look your best. Our pre-event waxing timing post maps out the right window for vacations, weddings, and date nights.

For a full breakdown of how often each area needs an appointment, our post on how often you should really come in covers each body area with specific timing recommendations.

How Appointment Times Change as You Become a Regular Client

One of the most consistent things long-term waxing clients notice is that their appointments get shorter. Not by a little. Often by 20 to 30 percent over the first year of consistent waxing.

Here's why: with each session, the hair follicle weakens slightly. The hair grows back finer, sparser, and more synchronized. Finer hair requires less wax to grip. Sparser growth means fewer passes over each area. Synchronized growth cycles mean the esthetician isn't working around hairs at wildly different stages. All of that adds up to faster appointments.

A first Brazilian might take 45 minutes. After six months of monthly appointments, the same service might take 30. Full legs that started at 60 minutes might settle into a consistent 40 to 45. This is one of the practical arguments for staying on a regular schedule: beyond the skin and hair benefits, you're also getting time back.

Skipping appointments or shaving between sessions breaks this pattern. The hair comes back coarser, the growth becomes desynchronized, and your next appointment essentially resets to first-session timing. Our post on why you should never shave between waxing sessions covers exactly what shaving does to the cycle you've been building.

If you want to see your appointment times get shorter while your results get better, consistency is the only strategy that works.
