Hey, Come On In

Let's be real for a second. Some guys feel a little unsure the first time they walk into a waxing salon. Add in the fact that we're right on Santa Monica Boulevard in the heart of West Hollywood, and a few straight guys have admitted to us that they almost talked themselves out of booking.

If that's you, we're glad you're here. At WAX LAB, we wax guys of every orientation, every age, and every body type, every single day. Straight, gay, bi, trans, or not into labels at all, you'll get the same thing from us: a professional, friendly, judgment-free appointment.

This post is our way of saying welcome, and walking you through what to expect.

Plenty of Guys Like You Already Wax

You might be surprised how many straight men are regulars at waxing salons. Back waxing, chest waxing, brows, and nose and ear hair are some of the most common services we do for men, and straight guys book all of them.

Why? The same reasons anyone does. Waxing lasts longer than shaving, there's no stubble, and it's the only realistic way to deal with back hair. Many guys come in because a partner suggested it and end up keeping it up because they like how it feels. Our post on the real reasons men choose waxing shares more.

What Actually Happens at Your Appointment

Here's the simple version, so nothing catches you off guard:

  1. You check in. We'll confirm your service and answer any questions.

  2. You head to a private room. Every appointment happens one-on-one behind a closed door.

  3. Your waxer explains what to remove. For back or chest, you'll take off your shirt. For other areas, they'll tell you exactly what to do.

  4. The wax happens. Most body services are quicker than you'd think.

  5. Aftercare tips. You'll leave with a few easy instructions.

That's it. No small talk required unless you want it. Our post on first-time waxer anxiety breaks down the experience minute by minute.

Professional, Every Time

Our estheticians are trained professionals, and to them, waxing is just work. A back is a back. A chest is a chest. They're focused on doing a great job and keeping you comfortable, not on anything else.

If you have any preferences, like who does your service, just mention it when you book and we'll do our best to accommodate.

What If I Still Feel a Little Awkward?

That's normal, and it usually lasts about two minutes. Most guys tell us the nerves disappear as soon as the first strip comes off and they realize how routine the whole thing is.

If it helps, keep the conversation to sports or the weather, or just tell your waxer it's your first time. They'll explain each step before they do it, so there are no surprises. And if you want a break at any point, just say so.

Easy Services to Start With

If you're new to waxing, start with something simple. These are great first services for guys:

  • Brows ($30) or just the middle ($15). Quick, low pain, and a big difference.

  • Nose or ears ($18 each). Faster and longer lasting than trimming. Our post on nose and ear waxing explains why so many guys love it.

  • Back ($74) or partial back ($43). The most popular men's body service for a reason.

  • Neck ($18). Keeps your haircut looking fresh longer.

Once you're comfortable, you can explore other areas. Our post on the top body areas men choose for waxing gives you ideas.

What About Below the Belt?

Yep, straight guys get Manzilians too. Lots of them. It's more common than you'd guess, and many guys say their partners appreciate it. If you're curious, our post on who actually gets Manzilians might surprise you.

There's no pressure, though. Start wherever you're comfortable.

A Few Tips for Your First Visit

  • Let your hair grow to about a quarter inch. If you've been shaving, wait a couple of weeks.

  • Skip lotion on the day of your appointment.

  • Avoid caffeine and alcohol beforehand. Both can make waxing feel more intense.

  • Ask questions. There's no such thing as a dumb one here.

If you've been shaving, our guide to switching from shaving to waxing is a great place to start.

Inclusive Means Everyone

When we say WAX LAB is inclusive, we mean it. We celebrate every body, every gender, and every orientation, and that includes you. Our post on how we celebrate every body explains what that means to us.

We'll Save You a Spot

You don't need to know anything about waxing to walk through our door. Just show up, tell us what you're hoping for, and we'll take it from there. Chances are, you'll wonder why you waited so long.

Book your first appointment at WAX LAB at 8621 Santa Monica Blvd in West Hollywood, or call us at (323) 455-2580.
