Your Summer Body Starts in Spring: A Month-by-Month Waxing Timeline

Everyone thinks about waxing when summer arrives. The problem is that by the time you actually want smooth skin, you're two or three months behind where you need to be.

Waxing works best with consistency. The first few sessions are the most intense and the least smooth, because hair is growing in multiple cycles and the follicles haven't adjusted yet. By the third or fourth appointment, things get noticeably easier, the hair comes in finer, and the results last longer. Starting in spring means you're building that foundation now, so by the time you're actually in a swimsuit, your skin is doing exactly what you want it to.

Here's the month-by-month breakdown to get there.

March: Start Your Routine and Let Go of the Razor

If you've been shaving through winter, March is when you stop. Hair needs to be about a quarter inch long for wax to grip it properly, which means putting the razor down and waiting roughly two to three weeks before your first appointment.

Use March to book your first appointment and do the pre-work. Start moisturizing daily if you're not already. Exfoliate once or twice a week to clear dead skin buildup that's accumulated over the dry winter months. This prep makes your first session more effective and more comfortable.

Your first appointment in late March covers the areas you want to maintain through summer: legs, underarms, bikini or Brazilian, and any body hair you've been managing with shaving. If this is your first time getting a Brazilian or a Manzilian, March is an ideal time to start because you have months to adjust before high-exposure summer situations.

April: Your Second Appointment and the Real Difference Begins

Book your second appointment three to four weeks after the first. This is where things start changing noticeably.

Hair that was removed in March is coming back finer than before. Follicles that were rough and dense from months of shaving start to behave differently when waxed consistently. Most clients notice by their second appointment that the hair removal process is already less uncomfortable than the first session.

This is also the month to think about whether you want to add any areas. If you only waxed your legs and bikini line in March, April is a good time to add underarms, brows, or any other area you've been considering. Starting these now rather than in May gives you time to work through the initial sessions before summer.

April is also a good time to think about facial waxing, whether that's eyebrow shaping, upper lip, or a full face treatment. Facial hair grows faster than body hair, so the rhythm of appointments will be slightly different, but getting it started in April puts you on a solid schedule.

May: Locking In the Routine Before the Season Hits

Your third appointment in early to mid-May is where the results really start compounding. Hair is noticeably sparser. Skin is smoother for longer stretches. The appointments themselves are faster because there's less hair to work through.

May is also the time to think about any skin treatments you want to add. Microdermabrasion for the back, chest, or face resurfaces the skin and reduces texture, dullness, and uneven tone. It pairs well with your regular wax appointments and the results are cumulative. Getting a microdermabrasion treatment in May gives your skin several weeks to show the benefit by June.

If ingrown hairs have been a problem in the bikini area or elsewhere, the Junk, Jewel, or Booty Facials are worth adding in May. Two months into a consistent wax routine, these treatments are especially effective because the follicles are already in better shape from regular waxing.

May is also when you should book your June appointment in advance. Memorial Day weekend and early June fill up quickly at WAX LAB. Don't wait until you want the appointment to book it.

June: Summer Ready

By your fourth appointment in early June, you're in the smooth, consistent skin zone. Hair grows back fine and sparse. Appointments take less time. Post-wax recovery is minimal. This is what long-term waxing clients experience every cycle, and it's what you've built to by starting in March.

Schedule your June appointment at least three to five days before any event or beach trip. That window lets any minor post-wax redness fully clear and leaves you at peak smoothness for the occasion. Our event timing guide covers exactly how to plan around vacations, weddings, and other specific events.

Staying on Schedule Through Summer

Once you're in the summer routine, consistency is what keeps it going. Book your next appointment before you leave each visit. It takes the decision-making out of the equation and makes sure you're not scrambling to get in when everyone else is trying to book too.

For most body areas, a four to six week schedule works well through summer. Underarms and bikini tend to need the shorter end of that range. Legs can often stretch to five or six weeks once you've been waxing consistently for a few months.

If you're maintaining multiple areas, a monthly membership for Brazilian or Manzilian waxing is a cost-effective way to lock in your most frequent appointment automatically. Our full year-round scheduling guide has more on how to keep your wax routine on track when life gets busy.

The Payoff for Starting Early

The gap between someone who started waxing in March and someone who books their first appointment in June is significant. The March client is in their fourth or fifth session by summer, with smooth skin, finer regrowth, and a comfortable routine. The June client is still working through the first couple of sessions where things are roughest.

Starting in spring isn't just smart preparation. It's the difference between waxing working the way you want it to and waxing feeling like an ongoing project.
